Shallow Waters

A reflective video, made playing with stock footage and a good song.

This video began with the music: “Shallow Waters” by Snowflake. I stumbled across it on ccmixter.org, one of my favorite sources of Creative Commons-licensed music.

From there, I mined Pexels.com (I swear these mentions are NOT paid product placements) for public domain, CC0-licensed stock footage. Honestly, this was probably the lengthiest part of the process: searching for just the right shots to portray the tone and imagery I was picturing in my head as I listened to the music. Even well into the editing process, I kept looking for new shots, because I wouldn’t yet have just the right feel for a particular blank spot on my editing timeline.

I hope you enjoy the result! I know it’s a weird sort of project, in that all my work and artistic expression was in editing or searching out the right footage. Neither the audio nor the source visuals were created by me. And nevertheless, the result is my own art, my own expression, and something that made me happy to create and put out into the world.
