ADAM; Time keeps on slipping into the future. I’m Adam the Alien, and today my little sister —born in the year 2000— turned 18; became an adult. Owff! Hi, Buster. I can’t –fffgosh! Buster! I’m trying to record a vlog, here!
Honestly, I still can’t process my thoughts on this. It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating her tenth birthday.

ADAM: And in my head, I don’t think she ever got older than seven, because that’s when I first moved away and stopped seeing her develop every single day.
The older you get, the faster time goes. And when you’ve got kids in your life in any capacity, it just–it just seems to move even faster. Because they grow…so quickly. That’s such a cliché. It’s so cliché to say that, but they do grow up so quickly.
ADAM: You’re an adult.
ADAM: How does it feel?
JEWELL: I don’t know. I’m tired. Then again, that’s pretty damn normal. There’s still dogs. I’m still short. I forgot what I was gonna say. Forgetful: that’s another thing I am, still!
JEWELL’S FRIEND: You’re still you.
JEWELL: Yeah, basically. Basically, I’m still me.
ADAM: How does it feel to have your last child become an adult?
DAD: It’s a relief. But it’s also just a different stage of life and responsibility.
JEWELL: I’m not ready to do any adulting.
DAD; It’s a transition. I’m still gonna be doing a lot of chauffeuring and hassling about homework.
JEWELL: Adulting is no!
JEWELL’S FRIEND: Adultery?
JEWELL: No, not adultery!
ADAM: I can’t believe eighteen years have passed. I just can’t.
So running with yesterday’s video as a theme, I decided to ask my little sister, on her eighteenth birthday, what she felt the title of the story of her life was.
JEWELL: “If You Can’t Remember My Name, Call Me Dave.”
JEWELL’S FRIEND: “Homestuck: The Musical”?
JEWELL: No, literally, I recently told a staff member, “If you can’t remember my name, call me Dave. I will respond to it.”
ADAM: And what would the title of the current chapter your life be?
JEWELL: Can you please repeat what you were yelling, L?
JEWELL; No, the first thing.
L: Oh, hah! GAAAYYYYY! That’s the name of your book.
JEWELL: I think the chapter would be, “GAAAYYYYY!”
ADAM: And what do you want the title of the next chapter of your life to be?
JEWELL: “Yes.” Just the word, “Yes.”
ADAM: So that’s all for today. I’m just gonna be sitting here under a tree, contemplating the passage of time, and my own mortality and aging.
Until tomorrow, I’m Adam the Alien. Fare thee well.
