By Adam the Alien, on November 20th, 2010 Long story short, a lot of technical difficulties – in computer and body and brain – are forcing today’s comic to go up late. It should be up tomorrow. Today has been a series of epic fails.
Edit: Okay, things keep coming up, so I’m gonna call this week a fail. But, as my friend Bobby has pointed out repeatedly, failure is not such a bad thing. It can even be the key to success. So no comic this week, but check in again next week and I’ll be sure to have the next page up!
Edit the Second: If you haven’t figured it out by now, the comic has been on indefinite hiatus. This is primarily due to having to prioritize paying work first. It is now November 17, 2011, and it’s been just over a year since the last post. I’ve had a mostly completed fourth comic sitting on my hard drive this whole time, and so many future comics still in my head. I am coming back to it, and soon, but I’ll make no promises on exact dates.

Saturday comes again, and for the second week in a row, I find myself uploading what I consider an unfinished product. In fact, this one is less fine-tuned than last week’s! I really need to start drawing these earlier than Friday night.
This strip sees the introduction of Scribbington, a character named after and very loosely based on an A.I. program developed by my friend Tenach. My Scribbington is a bit more coherent than the original, but expect him to occasionally spout off with phrases like those you can find on the Scribbington A.I.’s Twitter feed.
Adam was originally going to talk back to Scribbington, but I’m kind of enjoying the fact that the titular character hasn’t said anything so far, and we’re three pages in. I don’t think I can keep him silent for much longer, but I’m tempted to see just how long I can get away with it. Lord knows Scribbington’s likely to be chatty enough for both of them.
Hopefully I will have time in the coming week to clean this strip and the previous strip up a bit, but priority will go to making next week’s comic. I’ve got to keep to my schedule, right?

This strip is still in draft form. I haven’t had time to perfect it, yet, but I committed to uploading a strip every Saturday, and it’s already pretty late in the day. Check back later for the more polished version.

This one proved more of a challenge than I expected, and most of the challenge was in the word balloons. I’ve never done word balloons on a computer before (you may notice that I avoided them in the first strip), and they were a lot harder to make than I expected.
Finding a good font is hard enough, but I ended up having to create the word balloons from my sister’s house, where I had agreed to babysit for the night. Creating the word balloons wold have been difficult enough, for a beginner, on my usual computer with my handy-dandy Wacom tablet…but for this strip, I was forced to create those balloons using the touchpad (touchpads are vile, evil things) on an old computer that chugs along at its own slow pace before deciding to freeze and crash.
In any case, for those who can’t identify all the aliens in the bottom panel (and there will be a couple more in the final version of this strip), here they are from left to right:
Tune in next week! And if you missed the first strip, be sure to go back and check it out!

[Edit: Oh, and for two hours this damn comic didn't even work, apparently. It was showing up on my sister's laptop, but nobody else could see it. The problem is now fixed, but...yeesh!]

I’ve been waiting to post this until my web wizard, Tenach of The League of Magnificent Scoundrels, sets up my webcomic subdomain, but I’m just too damn eager for my own good. For the time being, I’ll post them as normal posts. One of the downsides of jumping the gun on this is that my current layout is not wide enough to fit the comic at the display size I’m aiming for. So if you’re having LINTTCS Syndrome (Leaning In, Nose Touching The Computer Screen Syndrome, just click on the image to expand it to full size. Don’t worry, that’s just a temporary issue. The comic’s subdomain will be set up to, well…fit the comic.
In the meantime, I wanted to get the ball rolling; I’ve had this comic sitting on the burner for too long (long before this site was even up and running yet). To that effect, I’m setting a weekly schedule: the Adam the Alien webcomic will publish every Saturday for the time being. And keep an eye on the textual aspects of the site, Earthlings – there’ll be an announcement when the actual webcomic subdomain is up and running!

[Profuse apologies and simultaneous props to the good Mr. R.R. Anderson, whose "Adam the Alien" lettering I have stolen both for the above temporary webcomic logo AND for the title frame of the Season 4 intro sequence.]
